Who is Essie?

“Not a single word she sings falls to the ground.” Essie Freeman captivates her audiences with her authenticity, intensity, and funk. Her music invites you to wrap yourself in melody and emotion on all fronts.
Essie grew up in Nashville, TN, and has made music with her dad since childhood. Growing up in a musical family, she has been writing songs since she could make noise. She decided to take her solo artistry route and now majors in music at Point Loma Nazarene University where she continues to hone in her craft.

Essie writes about anything from hardships of life, to romance, to Jesus, to the plant on your windowsill. However, one theme stays consistent throughout, and that is her use of unique harmony and melody to make a sound that is oh so fresh.

Essie is more prominent in the contemporary worship scene with five recorded singles released with JH Worship. She has toured for various worship and songwriting events around America and is most well-known for her singles “Alleluia” and “What I’m Looking For.” With her debut EP Living In Color being released in Spring of 2026, she is branching into the indie pop scene. Some big influences include Lennon Stella, Olivia
Dean, Coldplay, Sara Bareilles, and Remi Wolf.
